We are a Langley-based healthcare provider that works closely as a team to cover a full range of family practice services, including home visits, obstetrics, in-hospital care, palliative and hospice care, and psychiatric community rehabilitation.
Dr. Leo Wong graduated med school at Queen’s University, and Dr. Flora Wong graduated med school at the University of Calgary, both in 1998. They completed their Family Practice Residency in Prince George, BC in 2000.
Drs. Flora and Leo Wong first opened St. Luke Family Practice in October 2004 with a team-based approach to patient care in mind. Rather than having patients see one doctor, each patient would see both physicians, allowing for more in-office collaboration and better overall healthcare for our patients. Since then our clinic has grown to include more healthcare providers, including MOAs and a nurse, and we have become an established work experience provider for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
We have been preceptors for medical learners for 17 years. We have family practice residents, medical students, and nurses. We provide in-person and virtual/phone care and are involved in long-term care, urgent/afterhours care, and in hospital care networks.
In 2007, we took medical students from UBC under our wing, providing us with our first teaching experience. A few years later we expanded our teaching program to include medical residents from the South Surrey residency program. Since then, all of our doctors have been involved in teaching medical students and residents from UBC and nurses from Kwantlen, providing them with an inclusive and safe space to learn and grow their skills as medical professionals. In the future, we hope to expand our program to include medical students from the new SFU Medical School, which will be opening in the next few years.
In April 2024, Drs. Leo and Flora Wong were recipients of the Cedar Award for being exceptional teachers in the medical field. Their consistent approach to providing a customized learning experience ensures each student and resident is given the best possible chance to be successful. Their use of direct observation, combined with robust performance feedback, provides students with a clear picture of what they do well and what they can do to improve over time.
